Ottawa, ON: Robin Dow, President, Patrician Consolidated Gold Mines Ltd. ("Patrician"), announced today that Patrician, subject to approval by shareholders and the Canadian Venture Exchange, plans to change its name to "Patrician Diamonds Inc.", to properly reflect its current focus on exploration for diamonds in the Wemindji and Lac Miranda/Otish Mountains area of north-central Quebec.

Note that this is a name change only. The stock trading symbol "PXC" will remain the same, and there will be no change in the Patrician's capital structure.

The Annual General and Special Meeting to vote on the resolution to affirm the new name, to approve the contract with Jacques Letendre (previously announced) and other general matters as may come before the meeting, will be held at the offices of Patrician at 9 a.m. on 12 April 2002. The Record Date for the meeting has been set as 4 March 2002.
